Following are final thoughts on this collaborative team effort:
For this team assignment, there were a number of roles that I assisted with. My primary role was team lead. I helped facilitate communication of the team, using Wiggio.com as our primary platform for collaboration. It was also a role that was responsible for assuring all practice exercises were completed for our team to move forward through the project. The second element I played a dominant role in was the initial production of a script, and preparing the final “shots list” for the production of our digital story. There was collaborative effort to assist me in accomplishing this task. As our final day arrived, I took on an additional role to assist with gathering additional media assets that we needed to round out the production of our video.
What surprised me most about this assignment was the difficulty in transferring media files between team members for use in the production. While it is easy to transfer to DropBox, it was difficult to transfer from DropBox to the iPad. A separate app was necessary to transfer via cloud services from the primary computer, to the iPad in order to complete the assignment. A similar challenge was found in transferring audio files for use, without syncing to the iPad via iTunes.
Though not completely a surprise, the time zone difference between team members, also added a layer of stress at times, in being able to effectively collaborate. However, this piece is also something I am most proud of. Our team was strong in communication from the very beginning, through to the end. Each step of the way, I had either both team members available to help, or at a minimum one team member to collaborate with and work through details. I applaud my teams dedication to completion of the project, the flexibility of opinions, and ability to give productive opinions.
This was indeed a challenge in many ways, however it was a very exhilarating challenge for myself. I enjoyed having opportunity to further my leadership skills, develop relationships, and further my ability to compromise in achieving an end result. This also taught me that there are additional skills I can focus on learning that will help facilitate an even smoother planning and production of future creative assets.
