For this blog posting, we are beginning to piece together our public facing portfolio website. This will house our various portfolio projects completed over the course of the MCBS degree program, provide potential clients and employers with pertinent information regarding our skills, provide resume information, and showcase our areas of interest and expertise.
I am both comfortable and confident with the MCBS public-facing portfolio requirement. As I continue through the MCBS degree program, I will continue to develop and submit portfolio submissions. Bu the time I graduate – I will have collected a minimum of 9 stars for my submissions. Most projects that are submissions from class work will be awarded 1 star – so long as they are a representation of my best work – and identify who I am becoming as a skilled professional in Media Communications. Thus far in my collection, I have made two submissions that are “project and proposal” based with will tie heavily into my future event and non-profit work. The other elements were examples of my understanding of Aesthetics, and a familiarity with digital video media. Future submissions will further define the skill sets that I have acquired. My intent is to submit at least one or two original projects that would be rated as a 2 star. The elusive 3 star project would require real world traction of my project efforts.
In regards to the skeleton site – there are several things that need to be improved upon. For a beginning point – I need to switch to the template and platform I had intended to use for this portfoiio site. Unfortunately – there is a considerable learning curve with that template, and I had to scrap if for this weeks post. It was an unfortunate switch with only a limited amount of time to re-structure and work with an alternate template that lacks some of the robust features I had hoped for. As I become comfortable with the other template, I will transition the portfolio to that site and officially launch under my personal domain – LorenMaxwell.com.
In the skeleton – I need to find images or Flat Icons that can be used as links into each of my projects – in essence a page of portals. For now they are listed out in a sort of blog style format. I would ultimately like each project to open into it’s own page with easy navigation back to the portfolio portal. I need to identify the best method to have PDF’s viewable (since some items like proposals and project plans) are strictly documents. My resume needs a strong overhaul to better reflect my future career interests – and identify skill sets that relate to MCBS and what I have learned to date. I find that task to be a challenge.
I am proud of some parts of the last minute swap in template and platform. Mostly I liked that I could still maintain a minimal feel to each page, found a few colors I enjoyed working with that provided nice contrast (noted those for future projects or my portfolio transition). At the moment, I do like how the Portfolio page is arranged despite not being in a portal format.
Below is the link to my site (though partially incomplete). You’ll note the resume page has very little information – as formatting or copying text into this page was producing a less than professional image. I have begun with headers and will continue to play with it – or wait until I launch into the other template, or find a way to embed the PDF.
