For this post – I provide basic feedback on the Lynda.com tutorial Writing Articles by Tom Geller. This will add to my collection of Lynda.com certificates for various topics of study that I have completed throughout my time at Full Sail University.
One of the things I took away from this course – was really defining your cause, interest in becoming an expert in your field – or other purpose for your writing. As with many MCBS course, we are reminded to have a clear and direct story. After all, we are story tellers in the end, and our writing should express that element.
Defining types of tools is also critical. Those things we use for our words, other media elements like audio or video, and other graphical components. Tom Geller references a system I frequently use, which is writing in a basic text editor. For myself, this keeps the focus writing…and the visual elements come later when your content is in place.
I will revisit this tutorial in the future to more closely examine methods for acquiring writing assignments, working with technical specifications prior to submission of the article, and methods to effectively interview for your article, and actually write the article in the style of your publishing platform.
